Found our resident Bower Bird had a ring from a bottle caught around his beak and neck. We managed to catch him and carefully cut the ring off but he still seemed a bit wobbly and looked like he had a neck injury so he was taken to the vet for assessment (they still have him). If he recovers he will be released back on our property.

SAD NEWS in regards to the injured bowerbird. Unfortunately, the vet had to euthanize it as it was not responding to any of the treatments, was having trouble holding its head up, and was not moving. They think the vertebrae in the neck may have been damaged. I feel that this was the kindest thing to do in this situation.

Thanks for the update, obviously sad about the outcome but clearly they did all they could and your rescue gave the bird the best opportunity for a recovery. A clear lesson for humanity here on how we can do better.
