User's notes

Guestimate height to be 30-40cm. Query from a family member. Popping in their garden beds. Exotic grass perhaps? Would it be in the soil bank or brought in by birds or possums?

If it is a grass then it could well have blown in, grasses get around like you wouldn't believe it. But that's a bit beside the point, those look to me like culms so I reckon Juncus.

Probably native, J.subsecundus and J.usitatus have had a good time of it with the last few wet years. I've had both emerge in my front yard.
