I think there has been too little work done assessing the the variability of wing patterns within each species and between each species in Amata, to identify species by slight variations in wing pattern.

I visited the Australian National Insect Collection at CSIRO and was shown the drawers of unclassified Amata (genus) moths. I see the problem!
