Hi Tim, Have you seen any flowers or fruit ? Photos for flowers and/or fruit will help us with the identification.
Some tips on photographic plants for ID: The Naturemapr app allows you to take up to 5 photos of each sighting. Some key features that are great to identifying specimens include
Leaves: shape, size, arrangement, and unique characteristics like leaf margin (is it smooth or does it have teeth [serrated]?) are there hairs or spines present?
Flowers: colour, shape, size, number of petals, and the structure of reproductive parts (stamens and pistils) you can easily photograph.
Fruit and Seeds: the type of fruit (e.g., capsule, berry, nut) and seed characteristics, including size, shape, and surface texture.
Stem and Bark: Stem texture (smooth, rough, hairy) and bark features.
Form (which is what you have in this photo): stand back from the plant and take a photo, is it a tree, shrub, grass or something else? Getting a photo of its form can provide important contextual information as well.
I am wondering whether it could be Senecio vagus..? But hopefully you can get more info when flowering. https://plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/NSWfl.pl?page=nswfl&lvl=in&name=Senecio~vagus+subsp.~vagus
Hi Rose. Thanks for the photography tips. It was a photo I took before I had NatureMapr and just thought it was an interesting specimen that I hadn’t seen around before. Hopefully I can get back out there soon and get some better shots, hopefully some flower action. Had a quick research of Senscio Vagus and it was definitely growing in their preferred habitat. Thank you
