Callipappus australis (Bird of Paradise Fly)


Family Callipappidae.

The common name 'Bird of paradise fly' is appropriate only to the males, small, delicate insects with long waxy plumes extending from the tip of the abdomen. The females are much larger and more robust; they are more typical mealy bugs.
