Gymnometriocnemus nitidulus (Midge)

Identified to the species level using the following features as described in Freeman, P. The Chironomidae (Diptera of Australia). Aust. J. Zool. 9: 611-738 (1961): Legs, abdomen, halteres yellow, Wing length 1mm, Venation matches Fig. 12d in Freeman 1961, viz. base of M3+4 absent, R2+3 present, clavus absent, Length of foreleg basitarsus=30microns, tibia=50microns, ratio=0.6, Mouthparts not extended into long tube, eyes without dorsal narrow portions, male antennae strongly plumose, apex with close set short hairs, thorax yellowish, acrostichal bristles absent, dorsocentral bristles uniserial
