The fruit body consists of a small cap (up to a centimetre or so in diameter), more-or-less fan-shaped, with a lateral stem that attaches it to wood. On the underside of the cap there are pores, about 3 per millimetre and hence easy to see with the naked eye. The fruit body has a leathery texture, is whitish to buff throughout and the cap and stem are finely hairy.

There is no veil of any sort.

Spore print: white.

It appears on live or dead wood often in large groups, with overlapping caps, and in a variety of habitats.

This fungus cannot be confused with any other species.
