It is definitely a violet. Viola odorata is sweetly violet scented, leaf stalks have hairs pointing backwards, and the lower petal has a spur pointing backwards. None of these character can be seen in the photos.
I have revisited. All the flowers I checked had a sweet scent, and the hairs on the leaf stems are pointing downwards. So I believe your ID is correct. There are about 50 plants in the area, growing in the shade near the pond. About 3/4 are purple, 1/4 are white, and I found 2 that were maroon/pink.
