I can't quite work out what's happening here. The juvenile is older - no yellow flecks on plumage; well-used beak - but he was also unsteady when landing. I have seen the adult pair feeding alone over the past month or so (although once, three weeks previously, I heard begging, but couldn't see a third bird (juvenile) - just two adults, feeding). On the day of this sighting, I saw mum feed her son more than six times, but very short feeds each time. Then, around 5.15pm, the family flew to another dam. There, dad fed his son briefly, then mum fed him. Dad flew off, then chucked his head up and down like he was going to feed the juvenile again - but he didn't. Dad was agitated, flying from branch to branch and back again, almost craning his neck to feed his son, but didn't. Dad flew to a nearby tree, son followed. This time they did connect, beak to beak, but dad gave an aggressive bark. This was repeated, and with the second growl, the juvenile flew away. My theory is that, perhaps, this pair is preparing to fledge another chick, and are beginning to wean this juvenile?
