Paralucia spinifera (Bathurst or Purple Copper Butterfly)

Until very recently purple copper butterfly was only known to occur on the Central Tablelands of NSW however in August 2021 the species was recorded on Canberra Nature Map flying within Namadgi National Park. This species has highly specific habitat requirements and only occurs where Blackthorn (Bursaria spinosa subsp. lasiophylla) and an attendant is present. Please keep an eye out for this butterfly when you are in amongst Blackthorn.
