this is the species which is used for the rootstock of the edible passionfruit. Most other species of Passiflora have 3 lobes to their leaves.

Certainly spiky! however I thought they are the little side branches of the tree which are very pointy or spiky, see also 3rd photo; in fact, I hurt myself when I removed it.
